15 MUNICIPALITIES IN PARAGUAY DEVELOP WORKSHOPS WITH MOTHERS, FATHERS AND CAREGIVERS OF CHILDREN IN EARLY CHILDHOOD.

A new and innovative training program aimed at parents and caregivers of children from 0 to 4 years of age is being developed between January and February of this year. Based on the methodology: Positive Discipline for Everyday Parenting. They were aimed at:

“To improve the capacities of adults so that they can contribute to the optimal integral development of their children”.

They promote greater knowledge about: child development, healthy parent-child relationships, and a positive way to resolve conflicts between parents and children.

PDL-certified country facilitators Marta Benitez and Nancy Cuyer of Global Infancia jointly conducted the training workshop for parent facilitators in December 2021. And they are replicating it in their municipalities.

The trainings are coordinated with different local institutions, such as the municipality, the state health system, and other government programs. Some have made alliances with civil society organizations.

Fifteen facilitators were trained and each one has the challenge of training two groups of 30 parents during these months. Therefore, 900 fathers, mothers and caregivers are expected to be reached by the end of February.

The participants of the workshops that are being developed think that these workshops are very interesting spaces where they remember their childhood, they reflected on how children are at each stage. In addition to learning simple ways of stress management that help in the healthy resolution of conflicts in a positive way for the whole family.

This activity is part of the “Early Childhood in the Municipal Agenda” project, which aims to strengthen the management of 40 municipalities in the country for the implementation of comprehensive early childhood care programs within the framework of the National System for the Comprehensive Protection and Promotion of Children and Adolescents. It is implemented jointly by the Ministry of Children and Adolescents (MINNA), the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, within the framework of the Kunu’u Comprehensive Early Childhood Care Strategy. It has the technical support of the Non-Governmental Organization Global Infancia.
