CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE XXIII PAN AMERICAN CONGRESS AND THE 4TH FORUM FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

“We girls and adolescents are not the hope of tomorrow, we are the now, today. We are here now. Adultcentrism takes that away from us a little bit,” emphasized adolescent Pérola from Brazil.

Children and adolescents from Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Ecuador and Peru represented their organizations and children’s movements at the XXIII Congress and IV Pan American Forum of Children and Adolescents, held in San Salvador, El Salvador.

Supported by Save the Children, PASC partners and the Global Movement for Children, the adolescents had the opportunity to engage in an intergenerational dialogue with the heads of delegations from 18 countries in the region. Central topics of discussion included mental health, early childhood and human mobility, issues that affect children and adolescents throughout the region.

In addition, civil society organizations supported by PASC actively participated in the civil society forum, where they contributed ideas and drafted their own declaration, presenting their recommendations on mental health, human mobility and early childhood, which were incorporated into the forum’s final declaration.

These meetings are key spaces for civil society to follow up and monitor the agreements assumed by the States regarding the human rights of children and adolescents.
