This year 2021, in Save the Children Mexico we have created the Adolescent Opinion Committee in the National Board of Directors, with the objective of guaranteeing that their voices are heard and taken into account at the highest level of our institutional governance. Our first Opinion Committee is made up of 4 teenagers; two males and two females between 14 and 17 years of age.
This Committee represents a broader network of children and adolescents, and its function is to share their opinions, perceptions and needs with the National Board of Directors, in order to nurture the institutional decisions that are made, as well as to be congruent with our message on the substantive participation of children and adolescents.
On December 7, the first session of the Opinion Committee was held during the ordinary session of the Board of Directors. The children talked about the positive and negative impacts the pandemic has had on their daily lives and the role Save the Children has played in this context.
This is one of the actions we have, and will continue to promote and strengthen, so that children’s rights are at the center of all our actions, in all stages of our processes.
Meet the committee members
Daniela Hernandez
I’m Daniela Hernandez, I’m 16 years old and I’m from Sinaloa, where I’m a high school sophomore. I love music, singing and playing instruments throughout my life I have participated in several choirs, and during the pandemic I participated in a virtual choir. My quest to make my voice heard led me to meet Red Paz MX Sinaloa, of which I have been a member since January 2020. I have had the opportunity to participate with chicos.net and Save the Children in courses and global campaigns on the climate crisis in the world.
Medardo Lopez
I am Medardo Lopez, I am 14 years old and I am originally from Villa Juarez, Sinaloa. I enjoy reading and writing very much. He has participated in projects such as ”Jóvenes
Building a Culture of Peace and Citizenship” and ”Education that connects” implemented at the school by Save the Children Sinaloa. I am currently part of Red Paz MX Sinaloa, and my first participation exercise was the panel: Advances and challenges in the eradication of child and adolescent labor in Sinaloa.
Valentina Rodriguez
My name is Valentina Rodriguez, I am 16 years old, I am from Choix Sinaloa and I am currently in my second year of high school. Something I really enjoy doing is dancing and also coloring, as well as doing my work with a lot of creativity. I am very interested in the topic of mental health and being able to learn more about it.
Claudio Medina
I am Claudio Medina, I am 17 years old and I am currently in my third year of high school in Sinaloa. I am a young high-performance athlete with many concerns, positive energy and immense desire to succeed. I have a great concern for managing support and improvements for the people of my neighborhood, such as providing 30 packages of school supplies for children in my neighborhood or rehabilitation of recreational spaces and streets of the community, without leaving aside the food. I know what it’s like not to have, and I don’t want anyone to give up out of necessity.
