Biblical Clues for Disciplining Children

Biblical Clues for Disciplining Children

WHAT IS DISCIPLINE IN THE BIBLE? In the first testament, the word discipline comes from the Hebrew “musár” which means: repression, education, instruction, teaching, punishment, counsel, erudition. In the Second Testament, this word comes from the Greek “paideia”, which means: tutoring, guidance, training, education, teaching, instruction, correction. So when we speak of “discipline” in the Bible it refers to formation and the process of education and/or restoration. Discipline is: restoration, training, advice, guidance, etc. And it is not: humiliation, subjugation or punishment.
