REDNNyAS AT THE HIGH LEVEL YOUTH FORUM.

GLOBAL PLATFORM FOR MIGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT

On January 19 and 20, Quito hosted the Youth Forum (#YouthForum), held as a prelude to the Global Forum on Migration and Development (January 21-24) in order to ensure the participation of young people in this key space for discussion.

During two days, 68 young people from 32 different countries shared their knowledge and experiences on global migration, in nine round tables that addressed issues such as integration of populations in human mobility, changing narratives, regularization channels, among others.

All of the young people who participated in this meeting are leaders in migration and development issues, some from their experience as migrants and their activism within their communities, organizational groups of children and youth, and others as experts from academia.

“In the world, 1 in 3 migrants is under 30 years old, we cannot have a conversation about migrant youth without having young people at the table. Otherwise, the discussion would only have a theoretical approach,” said Marta Verani, Chair of the GFMD Youth Forum.

Working in an aligned manner allowed the youth who were part of the #YouthForum to take the main conclusions and contributions to the Government, Civil Society and Business tables of the Global Forum on Migration and Development.

REDNNYAS was present thanks to the support of PASC linked to REDNNYAS’ line of work on human mobility. Positioning in the different work tables ideas strength of its positioning worked as REDNNYAS in the Subregional Forum developed in 2019 and validated in the assembly developed in Cartagena in October of the same year. With the objective of making their proposals visible in dialogue with judges of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and in the Youth Forum.
